I don't know about you girl, but I'm a philogynist.

I feel a rant boiling, best to spill it.

There is nothing that pisses me off more than a scene critic, than an bigoted obtuse scene critic. Throw in an utterly untaught link to the new wave womyns' movement, particularly associated  with ones own personal ideological stance having little to bloody no relevance other than to back up your own pathetic opinion, which i might bluntly add is fueled from your own insecurities. Well, you got my blood boiling. If you're not a feminist, or share any philosophies, or beliefs within feminist dogma, why would you be so self indulgent as to back up your own misogyny beliefs with a link to a collective womyns' movement within a subculture of music?

When I was a teenager it was a rarity for other girls to listen to alternative streams of music, punk, hardcore, metal (etc). I always went to shows with boys, who seemingly listened to similar music, and rarely seen many girls at shows, let alone in moshpits, or circlepits. Slowly but surely over the years I gained girlfriends who went to alternative shows. I've watched a huge influx of womyn/girls into the different scenes, some came and stayed for good, others left, they were all welcomed, they still are.

A few years back the Wollongong/Sydney punks started putting on backyard shows. There were different reasons why these shows started, but mainly because the under age kids weren't getting enough gigs/chances to goto gigs. I cast back to being so shocked at the number of teenage girls who came, at least like 30 of them. More so, utterly stoked that two of the teenage bands had female members. I felt a movement change, I felt the wrath of the patriarchal nature of alternative music shudder beneath my very own feet. Here's a scene where now womyn/girls (grrrls) are accepted for themselves. Even their feminine, big haired, over the top eyeliner, waterproof mascara, tight jeans, barrette wearing selves. You only have to recant to envision the masculine attire that womyn in such social scenes wore to assimilate, within the male dominated scenes, to understand the positive nature of this shift change. Surprisingly, the little backlash I've heard isn't from males, nor people in bands, it's some girl with a bad attitude towards other females, and underlying gynophobia.

Social climbing, blahhhhh. Since when did hardcore music become a social ladder? I don't really know what the fuck goes on in Canberra, I have heard it's suffering from small town syndrome (and yes, I did do geography unwillingly in primary school, and know the Canberra is the hole of Australia - wait, i meant capital, largest inland city of Australia). In Wollongong/sydney we go to shows to watch the bands not to form our own self indulgent views on who is 'worthy' and 'commendable' to be there, or who is the top of the pack,  and who is leading who. Infact, social commentary of scenes is left to the people who feel like they have something to prove.

I am so oblivious to the hardcore scene in Canberra, really ANY music scene in Canberra, that it's embarrassing.

I only go to shows if a friend is playing, to support them. But even then, I don't like going because people think I wanna BE IN THA SCENE N NEED DA POINTS.

Which is stupid really, considering the types of people I tend to date. Musicians.

But I think I know who you're talking about. And confused as to whether you know each other or w0t.

Canberra seems to get missed from the tour link quite a bit. I don't know of any hardcore bands from Canberra, i'm sure they exist.

I go to a fair few shows, more so since university holidays allows me freedom *sigh of relief*. I don't notice other people, I'm too busy listening to the bass lines. Besides, where I live no-one talks negative crap about scenes, or anything about scenes really.

Yes, you do, + no I don't. I was lurking, and then disgusted and enraged by what I had read (that will teach me not to lurk). I couldn't help myself.
